I have 2 Janomes.
My 10000 has been a little workhorse, doing everything but queen sized quilts - I stopped trying to do the quilting after ruining the 2nd one - just completely ruined it. I used the embroidery extensively for years, but haven't used that function in the last 2 years whatsoever.

My other machine is a Horizon, which I purchased for the quilting.

that's what I want some kind of Horizon or Horizon clone to go along with my 10001. I need a bigger harp space.

So does that mean you have given up quilting, or you bought the Horizon so you'd have a better machine for that?
The larger harp space is what I lust for too!

The Elna 740 is a nice Horizon clone not really a clone as Janome makes them. Someone just got one in here. As the new Horizons come in the 8200 and 8900 the original one will come down in price.

Not so sure about the pricing coming down easily across the board for the 7700. It all depends on the dealer. (as always)

Is the 740 still being sold through dealers ? The Elna dealer here said she thought the 740 was probably being discontinued and the new machine that was going to replace it would be closer to $5,000. (She had just come back from a dealer trip to Japan)

We've seen that Elna 760 pop up on their site - but I don't think anyone has said they have seen it in real life at a US dealer yet.

There was a comparison chart talked about earlier this week that still had the 7700 on it, as well as the white-internet-offered machine. So it kinda looks like the 7700 wasn't getting discontinued. (?!?!)

The Elna dealer here wouldn't sell that 740 for under $2,700. Ryans Mom (the member here) got her machine for $1,600 - but she said she had a trade-in. So depending on what that trade in machine was (I don't remember)... it's hard to say what kind of real deal she got.

There have been lots of comments around about the price of the 7700 being closer to $2,000 - and sometimes that included a table (which I don't like - but the Elna dealer here wanted $600 for it) ... and sometimes it even included a travel machine (3160 or is it 3610?)

It seems that if someone really wanted a 7700, a good place to go would be the SewItsForSale yahoo group and post an "in search of" post. Seems lots of people are trading up to the 8900.
