Using quilt back as binding

I want to make the quilt back and is it as binding too. My quilt is 45" by 45". When I put it on top of my quilt back, it's bigger. What do I do? Ok, that sounded a bit drama. Lol. Truth be told, I don't have a lot of experience with quilts. This is my 3rd. And one was a quilt kit. (small). And the other one was really small too. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Is what you are saying is that the quilt top is bigger than the back? Then you will have to piece the back in order to use any of the two methods suggested. I had that happen on my first quilt. I just cut my quilt top borders down a little so I could still use a single cut of fabric for my backing rather than do a pieced backing. Does that make sense?

I use the backing for binding a lot, because I use fleece for backs and my family loves the soft fleece edges. It is not hard to do, just trim your edges to an even size after you quilt it. ------ Cathryn
