Date: 12/17/12 0:32 AM OK, so I finished my quilt top. I really like it. I want to make the quilt back and is it as binding too. My quilt is 45" by 45". When I put it on top of my quilt back, it's bigger. What do I do? Ok, that sounded a bit drama. Lol. Truth be told, I don't have a lot of experience with quilts. This is my 3rd. And one was a quilt kit. (small). And the other one was really small too.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! |

Date: 12/17/12 7:01 AM You can sew them like a pillowcase, in which case there will be no binding. The other option is to try this method. ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown

Then you will have to piece the back in order to use any of the two methods suggested. You could put a border around the back, making the border larger than the front so you can fold it over, or you can add strips to make it the same size as the front to use the pillowcase method.------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. Yes, you understood me correctly. The quilt top is bigger than the back. I appreciate your help. I am super excited about this quilt!
Thank you again. |

Date: 12/17/12 11:15 AM 45x45... so what I'm hearing is you have a single cut of fabric that is ever so slightly small for your top. I had that happen on my first quilt. I just cut my quilt top borders down a little so I could still use a single cut of fabric for my backing rather than do a pieced backing. Does that make sense? |

I use the backing for binding a lot, because I use fleece for backs and my family loves the soft fleece edges. It is not hard to do, just trim your edges to an even size after you quilt it.
