boxer short seams

I don't have a serger and disappointed that the directions would leave raw seams. how would you handle the seams for a more 'finished' look? I'm thinking flat felled seams, but would that work on the crotch curve? And what about the fly area, just fold over the raw edge? Plan on cutting tomorrow, so any advice appreciated. thanks

The crotch curve would not be adversely affected by that type of seam. You may also use a zig-zag stitch (if your machine has that feature) to finish the seams. nicegirl Intermediate DC USA Member since 5/10/06 Posts: 1614	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 12/18/12 1:16 PM I use the Timber Lane Five Panel Boxer pattern and it instructs you to flat fell all the seams (the crotch is essentially turned under and topstitched, though it's a lot more complicated than that). It's a little tedious, but the boxers end up looking really nice. I just made a pair of knit boxers out of some cold gear fabric. For those I serged the seams wrong sides together and topstitched them flat on the outside for a coverstitched look. I think it looks fine, and the inside has no bulk and no seam so they should still be comfortable to wear. I've done them. And DogLover389 is right that doing them on a curved seam is not a problem. I wrote about flat felled seams on boxer shorts in this PR thread. The curved part of the seam is truly not an issue because you're only dealing with a space about 1/4-inch wide, which will feed under your presser foot with no problems. Pressing and pinning first makes the process work smoothly. CMC

However, since I was in a bit of a hurry, I straight-stitched the side seams and finished them with a zigzag. Next time I'll do flat felled seams on all places because it gives a really neat look.
