So even if I only began to quilt in November, THIS is my goal for 2013 -- I really want to make one of those stunning Bargello quilts, twisted or not... but not Scrappy!

I have several Free patterns, so I think I'm getting the process or idea on how it's done in my mind, but what are the Best thoughts on how to learn about the Placement, keeping seams from getting wonky down the lengths.

Have you done one, is there a Pattern I should buy instead?

Thanks all!

I have a great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great.

HD,

Please forgive some unsolicited advice. I have never made one, so I am no help there, but I have read different ways of making these quilts, and I think they are lovely.

But this is my advice (and it is worth what you are paying for it!!!). Make a small(ish) one first. You can always make a bigger one later, but especially as this is new for you, making a small(er) one first will teach you the technique and you will be able to see if you enjoy doing it; you won't have as much money tied up in it; and it will be easier to keep track of the pieces if they are fewer.

I tend to make a lot of blocks and have discovered over the years that I enjoy some blocks much, much more than others, and I cannot predict before I start how much I will enjoy making a particular block.

I did one where I did NOT match the seams, instead offsetting them by half. It was a lot less stress-inducing and made it so I could change out some of the corners, etc to make it look less formulaic.

bargello quilt

Do you mean something like this?

I really enjoy quilting. I love to play with fabrics, colors and pictures. I recently discovered how much fun applique can be. As I love making pictures, landscape quilting can be challenging, but seeing the picture come to life is so rewarding.

That's a wonderful goal. I have never done a Bargello either and is on my list of musts but this is the year for finishing UFO's for me.
