Date: 12/22/12 12:32 PM I find myself with plans for NYE and nothing to wear. I have some black ponte knit in my stash which I feel would be perfect for Vogue 1328, but the pattern also calls for a lining and I haven't the foggiest what I should use. I was hoping to avoid buying anything additional to make my dress, and am wavering a bit. I have Butterick 5559 as well which also lists ponte as an option and has no lining, but I love the neck on the vogue design.
Anyway, I'd love some thoughts on lining ponte and any suggestions or feedback would be great. |

2 members like this. Date: 12/22/12 1:30 PM I made a ponte jacket and lined it with a stretch mesh-type fabric...the kind of stuff you find in swim trunks or in the pockets of athletic wear (that's the only examples of where I've seen it...I'm sure it has a specific name but I'm clueless LOL). For my purpose I treated the 2 layers as one. I can probably post a pic if you like. |

Date: 12/22/12 1:42 PM I would love to see a picture, if you had a chance to post it. It'll give me a visual reference while I'm at the fabric store. |

Date: 12/22/12 4:15 PM It might just be called a mesh knit. Here you go:

Date: 12/22/12 4:52 PM That's my go-to lining choice for knits. It finishes edges and adds a faint suggestion of structure, without interfering with the knit fabric. ------ “Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.” -Robert Heinlein and Ann's father. Date: 12/22/12 7:21 PM Karla, is it called 'mesh knit' or does it have a specific name? I don't even remember where I got that but I would like to get some more. Where do you get yours? |

Date: 12/22/12 9:09 PM I'm fortunate to live near an great indie fabric store that has one room devoted to lycras for dance costumes; they carry this meshy stuff in quite a few colors...sometimes, even, the one I need.
Emmaonesock carries it in some basic colors, as power mesh stretch lining. and Spandex House in NYC has a huge selection. Solid color mesh.
Spandex House offers it in a lot of prints, too.
BTW, one designer has built a nice little business making clothing with this mesh. She layers it, gathers it, and creates light-as-air stuff that is very flattering. Sweet Pea I don't see any on her website now, but her little shop in NYC used to carry bikini and thong panties and camisoles made from it, too. My daughter was given a wonderful mesh nightgown made from this same stuff.
