Time for an upgrade..... Help me start looking?

And the engine started whining a few days ago. I killed a 1978 Viking previously, due to a small design flaw (one irreplaceable plastic part kept going all wonky.) I own a treadle that likes me well enough and I do sew on it, but it's no good for a lot of what I've been doing lately. Also -- the Pfaff hobby just was NOT fast enough! I need some kind of baby industrial with a lot of feet options or something. I have no idea where to start, Maybe a Bernina 1008? But Bernina doesn't have a topstiching foot I like very well. I really don't know what to step up to. I know I don't want computer anything -- I work with computers all day and I don't want to deal with one when I'm relaxing at the sewing machine! (Though I might make an exception under the right circumstances.) All I really need is straight stitch and zigzag, I think. Or the Brother or Janome version of the same machine? They are SS only, but sort of baby industrials. How long have you had this machine? If you need a step up from this hmm... if you don't use the adjustable persser foot pressure (not all hobby versions have it) then it seems like the Bernina 1008 would be a good choice or the Janome HD 1000 might be stronger. Aren't there zig-zag attachments out there for straight stitch machines?

That is so very wild.I had seen the sew-n-pink attachment though. Well, now I know better. Thank you. I like bi-level topstiching feet. andye   Beginner VA USA Member since 5/9/09 Posts: 1531	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 12/26/12 1:57 PM Oh, I see pfaff bilevel topstitching foot I think the closest thing in Bernina's catalog is the piping foot (originally designed to sew velcro, among other things), but that has a needle hole, rather than a needle slot.

It is just a great little machine. Metal exterior, lots of power, small foot print, a dozen or so stitches, mechanical, free-arm. The perfect mechanical short of the 1008. It does not have ALL metal parts but it is very sturdy and strong. The foot you like "might" fit as the hobby machines do not have IDF. Also there is an ankle adapter for bernina machines that "might" let you use the foot you like on that one also.
