Date: 12/26/12 5:42 PM I went to visit the Bernina dealer in my home town today - just because I always do when I go visit my mom. They had a 750 on the floor, and a 780. Sewed on the 750 and it was great. I had decided I was going to go ahead and order a 710 because the price was about the same as LynnRowe just paid. On a whim I asked if they would take my 730 as a trade. So prices were checked, and the deal I was offered was incredible. But the clincher was the absolute killer trade in I was given for my 730e. Eddie is no spring chicken, having close to 300 hours and 7million stitches on him. But he is in very good condition, having been well loved the last five years. The trade in offer was the same for the 710 or 750. So I decided to go for the 750. I am absolutely amazed that after 5 years - to the day- I could trade in my 730 for $900 less than the cash outlay made in 2007. Whooppeee! That's a great retained value in my book. I think I am pretty vulnerable to machine purchases on 12/26 though.
They were very upfront about tension problems, although the floor model did not have them. And about the part that was being replaced. I am not at all worried about ordering a 7 series machine, I am sure it will be as smooth and wonderful as the floor model seemed today. And even though the dealer is 300 miles away, I know they will stand behind the machine if necessary. And I do go visit my Mom as often as I can. I purchased a 430 for my daughter from this dealer several years ago, as well as my last serger. They are a great dealer, just a little far.
I am so excited, had to give him a name even before he arrives. He will be called Jeep, in honor of my mom's beloved horse from her high school years. He will be the perfect machine to add to my Pfaff Creative Performance and my 820. I don't think he will quite the dandy that my 820 is and will be perfect to travel with. But this is it, no more machines for me! Anxious for March now! -- Edited on 12/26/12 5:45 PM -- ------ Berninas - with a few vintage other makes, love them all |

Date: 12/26/12 7:28 PM I sure hope your dealer is right and you get your new baby in March. I am still whining and waiting for the 780 I ordered at Thanksgiving. |

Date: 12/26/12 7:32 PM That is an amazing deal! Online used prices are only around $3500 and that's generally with extras. I would lose almost half my investment even selling at that price, and my machine has lots less mileage- so yeah, I'd have jumped on that too. Eddie sure gave you your money's worth! Do you think these dealers are feeling the pinch with the problems and the wait?
I'll be bringing mine in for the needle threader in January, to a different dealer. They do trades, so I'll see what they offer me for mine, just for the heck of it. I know it won't be $900 less than what I paid! ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE

Date: 12/27/12 8:38 AM The stitches include embroidery so that really adds them up fast. But Eddie was definitely my best friend in the sewing room. He really is an awesome machine. ------ Berninas - with a few vintage other makes, love them all |

Date: 12/27/12 10:28 PM Yes, I think I did! I took my 730 in to the dealer today, that was traumatic, lol. I used him one last time to take up two pairs of knit leggings for my granddaughters and he sewed like a champ. But I am looking forward to the 750, it really was an awesome deal. I am going to set either the 750 or the 820 up in my office. I telecommute from home, as well as have a small business, and my office is in a separate building from my home. I have only lived here for four months and I am finding that I really miss having a sewing machine in that area. There are definitely times when I can take 20 minutes or an hour or two and sew, but really need to stay close to my work computers and be accessible to customers. ------ Berninas - with a few vintage other makes, love them all |

Date: 12/28/12 11:45 PM Wow JanyceR, You got an amazing deal for an amazing machine. I will be happy to share notes on the 750, it is also new to me.
I can not imagine lugging it around as a travel machine though, it is very heavy 31 lbs without the cover, and makes my 635 feel like a featherweight.
Happy Happy dance...March will be here very soon.
