I purchased some fabric labeled 'baltic coating' and forgot to write down the fiber content. It's extremely soft..could it be a wool? I plan on washing a 8" sample to see what happens.

Anything important I need to know when working with this kind of fabric?
Thank you.

Well, if it doesn't shrink, it probably is not a wool. This is a new term to me and I will be watching for answer.

I'm curious -- since this term is completely evading me even after some serious Google action -- what color is the fabric?

I've never heard the term before and can't find anything online, so I'm wondering if "baltic" refers to the color hue. A blue or a blue grey, maybe?

Can you contact the store you purchased the fabric from?

I found the fabric on this link http://www.corinthianmills.com/hewewome.html
Maybe this will help.

Ecali, thank you so much...that's it!
In fact that's the place I purchased it from, only the store front has a different name. I didn't know that.lol

So it is polyester. I'm surprised, it feels so good and I usually only like natural fibers.

Polyesters can feel yummy in the hand but they can be very warm clammy fabrics to wear.

Yikes....this is exactly what I purchased from Michael Levine's a few weeks ago in the gold color. It felt so lucious that I threw caution of polyester to the wind.
I won't ever do it again:(.
It has been very hard to work with. Iron it with a large scrap of the same cloth underneath on a low wool steam setting with a press cloth on top, because it scorches easily. It is very hard to press a crease or seam, and due to the stretch factor, use some caution ( and a walking foot!) when sewing seams, especially if some parts are interfaced and some are not.
I will hopefully have my cape finished in a week, and hope it wears nicely. It *looks and feels* nice, but I have learned a good lesson!
