Vogue 8813 What shape will this flatter

I love this Marcy dress and would make it from very fine polished cotton. I'm wondering what the general opinion is? Most people seem to have found it a good pattern. My guess is that it will be a style that's very dependent on having a fabric which is drapey enough to be fluid, and not sort of bell out like a ship in full sail. Another pointer might be figure shape. Others may disagree, but on me, things which hang loose from the bust add inches, because I'm an inverse pear, and things which pull in at the waist with a belt only bunch a lot either side because I'm fairly short waisted. I love the style, but know it wouldn't work for my figure type. I suspect figure type rather than height might be a clue as to how it would look. Any chance of trying on a similar rtw garment first? ------ so many patterns, clamouring to be sewn http://patternpandemonium.wordpress.com/

Have you considered making a muslin? I think it would be really helpful to test-drive the pattern before cutting into nice fabric. Just my 2 cents. ------ Happy Sewing!

I have trawled through thr reviews and still can't make a decision to either buy the pattern or not. I notice a lot of the ladies made a fairly small size which makes me wonder? I would love to see it on a bigger girl. I am a rectangle. I think if you have a smallish ribcage the empire style would look good and take the place of waist shaping. One clue to the lack of shaping is the fashion photo on the pattern envelope has the model wearing a big belt at her waist, even though the style has a raised waist.

I don't even wear it around the house anymore. I'm 5'4" with a 36" bust. I made the small and there is just too much fabric hanging, I felt like I was wearing a 1950's housedress. I'm going to cut it up and use the fabric as binding.
