Hey guys, I'm buying the SE-400 by Brother and I was wondering if there are any websites where I might be able to DL decorative stitches? I was struck by a gorgeous array of decorative stitches that accompany the Pfaff machines.

Hi,
You can't download regular sewing machine decorative stitches to be sewn out on your sewing machine. If someone has created something that might look like a regular sewing machine decorative stitch, it would have to be a digitized design and then you would have to use the embroidery side of your machine.

You know why hasn't a company figured out how to do this!!! Why have a gazillion stitches taking up space in the machine...why not have a USB stick that can get the machine to make all kinds of decorative stitches without needing to go into the embroidery ...it seems like a real easy thing to do. then one could buy every variety of dec stitches one would want.

I have a wonderful Bernina 930 Record. It comes with what it comes with for dec stitches. I'm considering adding a new modern machine. It feels to me that the sewing machine world is not connected to the idea of apps. Just buy what you want and use it. Wouldn't it be great if sewing machine were more like that. Unless I don't know enough yet and some are there already for dec stitches. If one can buy embroidery designs, is that inherently different? For dec stitches are there other mechanical considerations?

Pfaff does it. The PCP intro package included dec stitches that could be downloaded to the machine via usb or direct computer connection, and permanently stored on the machine if desired.

So the capability already exists...

Lynn, I wonder if this means there will be more coming? Oh my aching pocketbook. Yet another reason to look at the PCP that I've already told myself is out of my league. Uh, oh- I even got a name picked out . . .

Also considering 2 others that are quite different- BL Elizabeth and Juki F600. Have not been bitten by embroidery bug. I enjoy what others do, but have yet to see a design that wows me. That is except for Schaparelli and Prada! The exhibit of that in NYC's Metropolitan Museum was breathtaking. Check out the exhibit catalog.

Also not a quilter. However, the favorite thing I made recently was a little zip-bag composed of home dec scraps that I arranged freely. What fun!

HI,
That would be neat if any machine with a usb port could download these stitches. I know that some of the high end machines come with an extra cd of decorative stitches. If the sewing machine dealers would just let other people buy the cds, that would be great. I doubt if they would do this because they want you to buy another machine that has more stitches.

This shows how to create a candlewicking stitch on the Brother Machines that suppport custom stitches

But the SE-400 does not support this sort of thing.

How many do you need? How many will you ever use?

SE = sewing and embroidery. The SE 400 has 67 built-in stitches for sewing; 98 stitch functions and probably more you can download at the Brother website. See projects and downloads at left side bar. Link below.

SE400 Use the arrows to scroll down to the stitches for the entire range.
