Hey guys, while D-ring belts can be made of almost anything, I see a specific type of fabric that is most frequently used, and I'd like to know what it is.... And, is it something that I could buy by the spool?

some sort of webbing. Webbing is made from cotton, nylon, polyester, and polypropylene (and more exotic stuff, but this is what's reasonably easily availbable). There are reasons to use the various types, but to keep trousers up, any are suitable.

Webbing like like this. The webbing at my local JoAnn's is more plasticy like back pack straps. Or for little girls, I also see these belts made with ribbon.

Check out any upholstery stores in your area, where they often stock it with the heavier trims.
Also think industrial--boat/canvas tent/car seat belts, etc. or online. If you want enough for single belts, you can find them unused in thrift stores, as they are often donated when they come with pants and skirts.
