How to alter a sleeve
to a sleeveless top?

Hi I've never done this before. I'm wondering if I just overlay my sleeveless pattern on to the pattern which is designed for a sleeve?

What would be the easiest way?

That would be my guess. If the sleeveless pattern is one that fits it should turn out fine.

In circumstances that can be right , But very often a sleeveless style has the armhole a bit higher than a style with sleeves. Sometimes there is also added room for the style with sleeves to eg be able to lift your arms.

A sleeveless style can have a different shape armhole, narrower at the shoulders and higher under the arm. I like to draw it on to my muslin while I'm wearing it so I can be sure it will cover my bra straps and give me a flattering shape around the arm. Then I fold under the seam allowance to check and trace it onto the pattern piece once I'm happy with it, adding whatever seam allowance I need to finish it. I have also found that a sleeveless style shows more imperfections than a sleeved one. I'm finishing a sleeveless blouse now and have some small gaping in the back shoulder. For this project, I decided it wasn't important, but for a closely fitted garment it could be a problem.
