What do you call this style of child's clothing?

Date: 12/30/12 8:56 AM I saw this back at Christmas when families were getting their kids photos taken. Sisters would be wearing matching outfits that were either a top and bottom or a one-piece jumpsuit, I'm not sure which. But here's the reason I'm asking - both the long sleeves and the pant legs ended with a large ruffle or bell-bottom shape. Some of the more colorful outfits looked almost like a clown costume - of course I never said that out loud. Now, someone I know wants one of these outfits and I don't know what exactly to look for. There may not be a single, specific name for these, but can anyone help? Tate ------ King of the Rocketeers!

Even grown women wore those things (on purpose) (I am not kidding). If you type in child jumpsuit on eBay I think you will find what you are describing.

I went to Etsy.com and put in girls ruffle pants and a bunch came up. They are very cute!

Often shown on pattern envelope in some huge cabbage rose kind of printed fabric. Not admitting I ever wore any of that stuff though

Date: 12/30/12 9:30 PM Martha Pullen Company had a pattern for a jumpsuit back in the 80's. It was easy to sew and came in both misses and children's sizes. I made quite a few for myself, daughters and granddaughters. They were sometimes made from a large floral fabric and were part of her classic clothing pattern line. I think some of the mainstream pattern companies had similar ones. A black background fabric with large roses paired with a white blouse with full sleeves and round collar was typical. ------ MartiP

Date: 12/31/12 4:18 AM Back in mid to late 60's my sewing mom had me in style using yellow fabric with blue polka dots. She may have been a bit embarrassed around her friends but I was really stylin'. She made a deep ruffle just below my elbow and another below my knee to floor length. Later the style added ruffles to jeans. In the 80's my daughter wanted a shorter ruffle sewn on tops and pants. She know avoids them like the plague! But I find them cute. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...
