(This is my first post so please forgive any faux pas I may make...)

In the late 1980's early 1990's, Nancy Zieman had instructions for a top with a log-cabin quilt block detail that surrounded the neckline and extended down the front, back and shoulder. You started with a standard set-in sleeve pattern and laid it out in such a way that when you finished you had created a pattern for a dolman sleeve top that required only one seam on each side from lower hem to sleeve hem. My mom made me a number of these tops years back and I loved them as they were so comfy. But we've lost the instructions on how to create the dolman sleeve pattern from a set-in sleeve pattern. Does anyone know where I can find another copy of the directions? I've searched the web, Nancy's Notions and this site and have had no luck so far.

Thanks!

I didn't see the show back then but my mind is trying to visualize this. Close but not quite there. I hope someone responds because it sounds cozy and comfortable and I can see making it in flannel.

I think this might help you.

Is this tutorial what you are referring to?

Shams has such good ideas!

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I've bookmarked it for future reference because I really like that idea! I'm not sure this is exactly what I'm looking for, though, as I don't remember the pattern having a seam in the shoulder area. I'll have to look at my blouses again to be sure, but right now they're in storage (Mom's basement) as they're a bit small. Mom's hunting for our copy of the pattern again to see if it was just misplaced somewhere between our sewing rooms - stuff tends to travel back and forth a lot between our two houses. (At least we're good about sharing!) I'll let you know if it turns up and post more info if it does. In the meantime, thanks for your help!

Hmmm, I'm trying to visualize how this would work. Maybe this would be a place for you to begin:

This Stretch and Sew pattern is the same shape as this S&S pattern.

They are both one piece kimono/dolman sleeve robes with the front and back layed out along the fold. After cutting the pattern out, you then slice down the fold to create the v- neck and front wrap over. It seems like it would resemble the top you are describing if you leave the front intact after cutting. You could add some shaping in the side seams.

This is a fun pattern and I've made it twice.

There is no seam at the shoulders. It only needs to be sewn at the side seams and finished at the edges and it's ready to wear.

Whoo hoo! We found it!

It's in a sewing Sewing with Nancy booklet which I believe was a newsletter type subscription she used to offer. The booklet number is 515 titled Quilting Options if anyone has any of these still hanging around.

I'm sure it's under copyright so I can't include everything about the top but I did include one image to give you the idea of what I was looking for.

Also, thanks for the link to the robe pattern. I'm definitely putting that on my wish list! I've been looking for a nice, easy robe pattern and that looks sooooo comfy!

Thanks everyone for your input!
