Date: 12/30/12 6:33 PM I have a gmail account on my macbook pro and recently got an iphone 5. When I receive mail it automatically goes into the Trash mailbox on the iphone. Any suggestions on how I can get new mail to go into the inbox? ------ I feed my soul by the stitches I sew.

Date: 12/30/12 8:25 PM Do you have the gmail account set up as one of your regular email accounts on the iPhone? I don't have this problem, and have three AOL and 1 gmail accounts on my iPhone 4s. Maybe the 5 is different, but I doubt it. |

Date: 12/31/12 0:00 AM Yep, it's set up as my main email account. I may have to go to the Genius Bar and ask them what's up with this. DH and I are baffled and he's a computer geek. ------ I feed my soul by the stitches I sew.

Date: 12/31/12 12:40 PM Have you completely shut down the iPhone recently? (Hold down the top button until you see the red slider, then slide it until the phone shuts down. Wait a few minutes. Then restart it by holding down the top button until the Apple logo appears.) Oftentimes bizarre behavior is fixed that way. Some phones just do weird things from the get-go, and in that case you should back it up to iTunes or iCloud, then reset and erase it (in Settings under the General setting), then reload it.
I guarantee you that these two steps are the first things they'll do at the Genius Bar!
Ah, and I forgot to add, is your Gmail on your computer set for IMAP or for POP? If is is set for POP, then you need to make sure that you check the setting that says to leave a copy on the server, otherwise the mail disappears once it's downloaded to your computer. Same for the iPhone.
And as a last resort: Delete the Gmail account from your mail app and get the Gmail app for iPhone

Date: 1/2/13 0:20 AM Thank you so much for your reply Debbie! I've been experimenting with my junk mailbox but haven't done everything u suggested about leaving the mail on the server if I have pop mail on my laptop. I will try that tomorrow. I am trying to avoid a visit to the Genius Bar as I know they'll be so busy this time of year. ------ I feed my soul by the stitches I sew.
