Date: 12/31/12 0:27 AM I got some Dylon cold dye and didn't know it would call for Dylon Cold Fix, so of course, I didn't buy any. Do I need it for heavy-ish muslin that will be washed very infrequently? Will the dye rub off on skin if I don't use it? It will be used on muslin yoga belts and they probably won't be used too often, either.
And while we are dying things, does anyone ever use dye to change the colour on cheap jewelry? I have white "pearls" that I really would prefer them to be pinky-mauve for my gown. Totally willing to take a chance and see what happens.

Date: 12/31/12 3:38 AM I've used my top loading washer to dye a number of cottons that were just the wrong color, using this Dylon product. It's incredibly simple, no fix required, and it's permanent, with no rubbing off or fading, etc.
However, there are a few things to to be aware of when choosing your dye:
The composition of your fabric is important, since Dylon has different dyes for naturals and synthetics, as well as dyes for different types of use. Some careful reading on the internet is extremely helpful.
The intensity of the color you get is very much related to the weight of your yardage. The envelope tells you to get out that scale, and it's a good idea to do just that. |

Date: 12/31/12 6:52 PM  Elona - thank you very much! I had a sneaky feeling that could be done. For just a few I would have used nail polish (I used it on hair clips back in high school) but this is several strands, quite small and would be rather tedious. I am excited to try it!
I went to look for the colour fixer but the store is obviously not selling the Dylon Cold I bought anymore and there is a whole other line now. I will take a chance and just do the belts. They can always be redone later. ------

Date: 1/4/13 10:08 AM Well, the Dylon was a bust. It was called "cafe au lait" but was distinctly mauve coloured. Bonus - it should work for the pearls. But no, they didn't take the dye at all. I tossed a scarf in and it didn't really take the dye, either.
Ended up tea dying the yoga belts and will go and get some Rit to see if it works on the jewels. If not, I think maybe a Sharpie pen might do the job. ------
