I would have smacked that kid silly.

Date: 1/1/13 2:28 PM I can't stand those commercials either! I find what is most irritating to me is that there is one voice over for many commercials and I find her voice to be a bit whiny and nasaly. She does Swiffer, cereals, etc. I hit mute every time. Oh, and the TP commercial where we need to discuss what we really want to have in a toilet paper.....oh, then there are all those ED commercials.....please! I need to turn the tv off! LOL Oh and I cannot sleep at night after seeing commercials for the ASPCA--those poor little animals....
ETA: geez--I can off the deep end....how about Flo on the Progressive commercials? That gets old fast. I hate seeing people eating things on commercials--always a woman eating in a suggestive way---so offensive. The Lays potato chip lady--who opens the bag and smells and takes one chip out and inspects--just eat it already! Or kids that hold spoons like shovels.... ESPN has good commercials--very witty.
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest! -- Edited on 1/2/13 9:08 AM -- |

I just turned 50 (OMG!) and I enjoy watching the channels that show older sitcoms like The Partridge Family or Mary Tyler Moore. But those channels assume everyone watching them has one foot in the grave. They also assume that once you are past 50, your primary goal in life is to make sure your loved ones don't have to pay for your funeral. In other words, whenever two or more "Seniors" (50+) gather, the topic of conversation must be about affordable coverage to pay for their final expenses. (Me, I'd rather talk about that trip to Europe I want to take next year!)
The ABSOLUTE WORST of the WORST are these:
1. A group of women in their 50's-60's working in school cafeteria who stand around making "old lady" comments about moving in with their grown children now that their husband has died (coming from a woman in her 50's) and how the little tykes in the school remind them of their grandchildren. A commercial for Colonial Penn.
2. Henry Winkler looking like the Daddy of All Geezers in his old-man pleated khaki pants while talking about Reverse Mortgages for Seniors. This guy is/was the FONZ!!!!
3. Two middle aged couples in a coffee shop having a serious discussion with the middle aged waitress about supplemental life insurance endorsed by the AARP which will spare their loved ones the burden of final expenses.
4. A couple in their 50's chuckle fondly as they discuss giving the husband's trombone to a grandchild (since he is evidently way too old to play it himself) and talk about how they can spare THEIR loved ones the burden of final expenses with a Colonial Penn policy.
I find all those commercials highly insulting as if once I turned 50 I can no longer have a life of my own and have no hope of having anything intelligent or interesting to talk about. They depict people in my age group as being hopeless Geezers whose only goal left in life is to make sure we aren't being a burden on anyone else. -- Edited on 1/1/13 8:17 PM -- ------ Margaret (Singer 201-2), Betty (Singer 15-91), Bud (Singer 503), Kathy (Singer 221), Liz (Singer 221 Centennial Edition)

There isn't hardly a commercial on that doesn't irritate me in some way. I'm just thankful the late night auto dealership and furniture store commercials will now have a normal volume.
