Date: 1/2/13 9:43 AM I'm a beginner and have a Singer 347. The manual lists needles size 9, 11, 14, 16 and 18. Does this mean that I should use only these sizes? What about sizes 10, 12 and 20? |

Date: 1/2/13 10:38 AM Here's an excellent chart I found by Googling "sewing machine needle size." There are many other useful results of that search, but this looked like one of the best.
Needle Size Select Chart
I'm not familiar with your specific machine, but FYI, I use size 20 needles for heavy thread in heavy fabrics in my Singer 66 and 15-91 machines, as well as my BU Nova and Universal zig-zags, without problems.
Have fun! ------ A sewing machine is just a welder for textiles. |

Date: 1/2/13 11:21 AM No it does not mean you have to use those exact sizes. They are just what is commonly found when shopping for needles.
10 for 9; 12 for 11.
20 is very large, but close to 16 or 18.
Test the stitching with a folded scrap of the fabric intended for your project to see which gives the better results. |
