Date: 1/4/13 8:27 AM When I bought my Creative Performance I was overjoyed. I still love Phyodor but this morning he and I are having a spat.
After making a trial quilt (see the purple haze thread) and testing everything I could come up with I began to work on my son's 21st birthday quilt. Since my tests and trials using exactly the same batting and the same weight of 100% cotton had yeilded such great results I felt confident about working on this project. I followed the instructions from Pfaff carefully and the first blocks, which I was stitching in the ditch using IDT, went beautifully. The IDT is a masterpiece of engineering. Next, I started working my wy down the sashes between the finished sections using a maxi stitch without IDT. A bit of bunching but not bad really - nothing too obvious and certainly better than my 932 Bernina could manage without the walking foot.
Now the sad part. I hooped a section using the Grand Dream Hoop which allows me to work on a huge section of the quilt. I carefully supported the quilt on all sides per Pfaff instrucions. Using a double run quilt pattern I began to work a design. Epic Pfailure. Phyodor just could not do it. The design is a mess and I can't pick it out. I decided to go tot he next section and try to make things better. I recalibrated, re-hooped and loaded a design from Pfaff itself in case it made a difference. At this point, my cat Goku decided that the big 'platform' created by the hoop would be the prefect place to jump up to so he could hang out with me. He went right through the hoop dragging much of my quilt with him WHILE it was in motion. 
Goku is cowering in some corner, clearly having ascertained my displeasure and the quilt top is a disaster. I would be less sad if I could redo it - though I confess I would still be annoyed. But I can't!
All before my first cuppa tea. That will teach me. Never start the day without a proper cuppa.
I posted this off the 'haze' thread to at least provide some balanced perspective. Phyodor is a great machine and I know that some of this is human/feline error. Somehow that doesnt make it better yet. Off for my first cuppa ------

Date: 1/4/13 8:39 AM Oh I so feel for you, especially the cat part!!  Try the design with no quilt to be sure that nothing is wrong. If it stitches out great, then it had something to do with the quilt, the hooping, the heaviness, or whatever.

Date: 1/4/13 9:30 AM oh my goodness! This sounds like a terrible way to start the day, or even have included in your day. I am curious as to what you mean by "Phyodor just could not do it". I certainly hope your day improves and you and Phyodor achieve harmony

2 members like this. I had a cat who liked to hang out behind my machine while I was sewing and he would just watch the needle going up and down and the fabric feeding through. Some times he would reach out and paw the fabric. One day he decided to "catch" the needle and I sewed his paw! I had to grab him and roll the needle back out of his foot, all the while he was struggling and howling like a possessed wild thing! Awful really and I was sewing on white linen. After that he didn't try to catch the needle! Whew, the memory is still bad and it has been at least 20 years.

Date: 1/4/13 11:49 AM I am so sorry. I hope you will back away and do something that relaxes you and think about what to do next. OH boy - I know the feeling of the complete sewing disaster. The cat - well, mine don't bother the machines after they see there is nothing there to eat and the needle isn't a mouse. ------

Date: 1/4/13 11:59 AM omg I'm so sorry! About both, the quilt and your cat. I sure hope you get your Phyodor back on track and the kitty now knows that's not a good perch spot.
