Date: 1/4/13 9:24 PM I have my toddlers birthday party coming up, and wanted to make some favors for pre-teen boys. (12-13yrs old)
My DH thinks they are too old for favors, but since their little brothers & sisters are getting something I didn't want them to feel left out.
I was thinking of a black drawstring bag with a design like this...

Is this too gothic? It's also supposedly "tattoo" style.
Is it too much for a pre-teen? I don't want to offend their parents...
Or on the other hand, are the pre-teens "too cool" for this?
As my kids are 2 and 4yrs old, I have no idea what pre-teen boys like or how their parents feel about what they get. |

Date: 1/4/13 10:19 PM Personally if it were my son, I'd forget the embroidery and just do the plain, black bag. Only because all that work would be lost on a 12yo boy.  They won't care about the bag, only what's inside. Also my DS and his friends are more into skate & surf stuff than dragons.
And btw, my son still likes favours, although if they aren't offered he wouldn't care. He wouldn't expect to receive them at a toddlers' party. HTH ------

2 members like this. I vote for the simple drawstring. Save your money. At the most embroider their name. They can toss their stuff into it for sleepovers or pack it with stuff. My grandson turns 12 and would use it- great idea.
PS- I personally love that design though- I was born in the year of the dragon. thanks for posting!

Date: 1/5/13 5:54 PM I made super quick bags for 2 pre-teen boys and they seemed to really like them. I threaded around from each side so they tightened up when pulled. I made super long cable strings thinking they could always make them shorter. It immediately went over the shoulder like a backpack.
EDT: I might bring grommets for the bottom corners to make it more like a backpack.

The girls get a little tote bag but I was wondering what I can do for boys... Then found a drawstring bag online and remember seeing so many kids (boys especially) using them. |

Date: 1/6/13 7:44 AM I made some school kits for charity where they changed to this kind of backpack because they said boys preferred them to totes. I first tried self-fabric cords but had a terrible time threading them. Had some (macrame?) cord from a thrift store which worked great.
