Question about piping

I have made piping before. But, how do you know which size of string to use? I am making dresses from 2T to 6. Thank you for all your advice. Erica

Some solid colors are available in fabric stores, but it's so much cuter to use a print! Try other sizes by wrapping some fabric around things in the house like a straw, or marker to see what looks good. FYI--I use Clothesline for things like pillow piping, several sizes come in longer lengths, 100% cotton or poly, in WM, Lowe's, etc. It's cheaper than by-the-yard or the little bags sold. Of course clothing would be washed more, so you might pre-shrink it first.

Crochet cotton Also rayon cording used for roman shades from the home dec department is really nice. What you don't want is something with a wooly texture as that will get caught in your seams. The cord needs to be "free" in it's tube. Piping on children's clothing needs to be much smaller than what is used for an adult garment. It will look totally out of proportion, IMO, or let's just say it wouldn't look as good if you used regular piping from Wrights that you can pick up at any chain. If you buy pre made piping look for the description "mini piping".
