The New Elnas...twins to the Janome 8200/8900

I found a German site which google translated into English. I'm pretty sure the dual feed thing is removeable. Someone on the Horizon yahoo group (which covers the 7700, 8200, and 8900 and has several Elna owners too) said that one of the improvements from the 7700 were that the dual feed prongs aren't left where the project can get hung up on it. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸

The pricing varies by local dealer competition. The pricing on the Janome 7700 and Elna 740 were the same - but in my case, the Elna dealer here locally won't budge on her pricing. I got the Horizon for $700 less than what I could have gotten the Elna for. But another member here had the same experience the other way around - she got a better deal on the Elna. As far as those prongs being a problem... I can't imagine why having the prongs retracted (in their not-in-use position) could be a problem. They are directly behind the presser foot and the prongs are 1/2 inch above (off the needle plate). The end of each prong is almost directly above the back of the presser foot and very close to the backside of the ankle. So to get a project hung up in there means the fabric would have to be bunching up terribly to pile up back onto the presser foot area, IMO. The new models are supposed to have a better mechanism that makes changing out the dual feed feet easier and it does remove the prongs from being present. I'm sure its an improvement - but those things aren't even on my *hit list* of things I'd change about the machine. The only thing I would change (if I could) would be to have the feet attach directly on-center to the post. Last night, I was doing a project on my EllieG and I wanted to steal a foot from the Janome (piping foot)... and even though it fits on the EllieG's ankle, the mount is off center enough that it wouldn't give me the results I wanted - I wound up using a zipper foot to get 'er done. ------ nightowlsally.com On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
