Date: 1/8/13 4:07 PM I took a typing test on Friday. The link was emailed to me and I had a 5 minute test. Since I haven't had one for over 8 years, I don't know what is considered good or an excellent score. Thanks!
I think I have been getting practice in the chat room on Wednesday nights! 
Seriously, I was given my score on Monday when I had the interview (well, at least they didn't cancel it due to my score).  |

I do not know what it would be now. ....When DH took a test via computer he was told to switch search engines while typing & put in info from search engines. He did not pass as you had to have so many quotes per so many lines of typing. ...goofy! ...

Date: 1/8/13 4:40 PM If memory serves....on an electric typewriter, 55 wpm was considered intermediate and 65 a senior typist. I used to give out typing tests and it wasn't just the speed but the accuracy. We did not subtract the errors from the speed, but just noted the actual numbers.
This was years ago so I have no idea how that would be scored today or if applicants are tested on a computer keyboard or a typewriter. (Methinks I'm showing my age here.)

Date: 1/8/13 4:54 PM Just so you know GlB, I had to take off my typo crown for the test. I had 0 errors and can't believe that.
My fingers got stiff because I was so tense and nervous. I'm glad it is over with.

Date: 1/8/13 8:30 PM One of my college roommates long ago was a Hollywood girl, the daughter of a fairly well-known screenwriter at the time. As a teenager, though extremely bright, she had no driving ambition, and after high school, she said she had no problems finding a job because she could just walk into a business and say, "I can type 126 wpm." And she could, too. It was dazzling to watch.
However, her family and friends told her she should definitely aim higher, so she rather reluctantly went to university. She was a delight, an absolute delight, and although we have not stayed in contact, I have been pleased to see she has won a couple of Emmys for her work on NCIS.
Being a really fast typist cannot hurt in the overall scheme of things, though. |

Date: 1/9/13 1:11 AM Most of the recent job postings I have seen list 65 wpm as the mininum. Last time I did a typing test (about 2007) I scored in the low 70's for wpm and fell in to the average catagory. When I relied on my fingers for a living I averaged 75-80 wpm net and wasn't the fastest in the department! |

Date: 1/9/13 9:54 AM They did not state a minimum so I obviously wasn't expecting a typing test. Reading through all this, I may have passed the minimum.  Thank goodness I didn't have any errors. Although, I doubt I could do that again.
Today they make the decision. I have another interview this afternoon. I just wish I knew how to apply makeup. I do o.k. until the eye makeup. How the heck do you put that on when you need glasses and I cannot wear contacts? It is a mystery to me how you get eyeliner on straight!

Forget the eyeliner if it causes you problems. Not everyone wears eyeliner, anyway. If you prefer the look of eyeliner, IMHO you can get a not bad equivalent by softly smudging a discreet amount of brown eyeshadow on your lids -- don't overdo it. With mascara on your lashes, of course, otherwise eyeshadow would look out of place.

Date: 1/9/13 12:39 PM Well your post made me curious so I went to TypingTest.com and scored 76 wpm - which is "fast" by their chart. They have 50-100 words as "fast" and 20-50 words as "average".
