Just sold my first item!

I was hoping I can join a Craft Fair by March but I can't "produce" fast enough... I still want time to make my own and my family's clothing. But it was nice to know that someone actually likes my stuff enough to buy one. I thought I was overcharging... Especially on the girls top, even my mom thought I should lower the price. I checked similar items on etsy and went with lower average price.

Date: 1/11/13 12:42 PM This comes from an accounting point of view since it's what I do for a living. But for any successful business the idea is to make a profit. Which means you have to charge enough for your products to cover the cost of producing them. Including the materials and your time. Now granted your profit is going to be lower when you first establish a business. The more sought after the more you can charge. The problem with Esty is you have a lot of other people selling the same kind of stuff. Yours stand out in the fact that is appears to be really well sewn. I've seen stuff people try to sell that I would be ashamed to show anyone. You need to make your stuff stand out in that kind of environment. You'd be better off doing your own website and doing some advertising. A lot of sewers don't get into this professionally cos it's is hard to get the money for the things that they are worth. This is just my opinion of course. People do this for different reasons. Just the fact that people like your stuff can be a great ego and confidence booster. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com

Especially on that I think you are undercharging! I looked up double gauze when my son was born as I wanted to make him some swaddles from it and that stuff is expensive!! And there are cute details on the dress that probably took some time. Congrats on starting your business! I hope you do well--I'd love to do something like this as well, and I know how hard it can be to get started.

It's such a compliment to hear that my things seem well sewn. :) I guess after so many wadders I feel like I'm still a beginner... I guess I should give myself more credit. Sky, I know double gauze here is really expensive... I tell you, they DOUBLE (or even triple) the price in the process of importing! I didn't charge much because I got it when I went to Japan few months ago at the original price. Luckily I can read Japanese so now I'm getting it directly from a seller in Japan for cheaper price. But I guess I should increase my price a bit considering I have to pay for international shipping... Oh yea, I was going to make some baby items too once I get the shipment!
