My granddaughter has just startedeshowing an interest in dressing her build-a-bears, and I wondered if there are patterns for them...I used to make Cabbge Patch Kids clothes and I am sure that these would be similar.

My DGS has a teddy bear that is actually a cremation urn. It has given him so much comfort since he received it on his birthday last October. So much so, that he asked for clothes to dress it, as he takes it everywhere. Not finding anything online, I took a chance on going to Build a bear and bought a few things. (I think the pants fit well, but were a little on the short side.) Anyhow, I plan to make a couple of patterns by just using the basic pant and top I'd purchased, so that I could make him a few more items. PM me for more info if you want.

In 2003, Simplicity put out a pattern for sewing a similar type bear (they called it "Sew-a-Bear") and 2 additional patterns for clothing for the bears.

To make it even more interesting, some of these patterns have two different Simplicity pattern numbers. Go figure.

Occasionally, these still show up on eBay or Etsy. Try searching for the phrase:

Sew-A-Bear

Or search by "Simplicity pattern number"

The basic bear pattern (4623 -- also known as 5278) includes 2 sizes of bears (15" and 18") and patterns for shorts and T-shirts (for both size bears).

Other patterns were for clothing only (for both sizes of Sew-A-Bears):
5280 - Ballerina tutu, Bridal dress and veil, Soccer outfit, Cheerleader outfit.

5283 (also seen as 4624): Party dress, Swim suit with coverup and visor hat, T-shirt and shorts, PJ/Clown costume. Includes pattern for sandals.

Thankyou for the suggestions, but I tried some newborn and regular Cabbage Patch clothes on the bear and with few exceptions, they are too small.

I think that I will have to draft the patterns using Cabbage patch patterns as slopers?

If you're looking for pants and tops, I can share the pattern I made from cloning the pants. I thought about this earlier today, but got caught up in sewing a school play costume for my niece.

I used the 18" doll patterns(American Girl). I added a 1/2" to the side seams and the folded seams. The height is right. I made pants, t-shirts, Shorts, PJ's, tank tops, long sleeve tops(raglan sleeve) and short sleeve dress shirts. It works with a little adjustments here and there:)

My son wanted pajamas for his build-a bear and I found this great pattern online:
http://www.itsalwaysautumn.com/home/2012/5/31/sew-stuffed-animal-jammies-free-pattern.html

I am a very beginning sewer and this was pretty easy for me. The pajamas looked great and they were just what he wanted.
