Interview Blouse White

Not the look I'm striving for to go to an interview in. Now I am looking for a pattern. I want to look conservative (white blouse with black suit). I have Butterick 3926 which I think is too casual. I also have Simplicity 9857 - which may be outdated and I don't want to look older than I am. Please advise if you know of a nice conservative blouse pattern that is actually in style. Thanks for your help!

You would need to find a softer white fabric than a broadcloth, but this has a more current, fresher look than a shirt. Simplicity 1779 is nice and there are many blouses in RTW styled similar to this with the tie. You could easily raise the neckline if it is lower than what you might wish. Again, you would want a softer white fabric, maybe something with rayon... And, Jan 13-19, Simplicity is on sale at JoAnn Fabrics, 5 pattern for $5 (or a buck apiece) which is reasonable. I own the Melissa, Jenny, and Sara. I've made the Jenny and Melissa and I've been very pleased with the fit - not too bulky at the waist, which IMO looks sloppy. They all have a neck to hem measurement of at least 25.5" which makes them stay tucked really well. I needed to lengthen the waist on them at least 2", but overall they are great patterns. Instead of a blouse, have you considered wearing a fine gauge cotton or silk sweater under your jacket (maybe something like this)? Lots of professional women say it is easier than a blouse because it allows for more movement and you don't have to worry about gaping, and it is considered just as appropriate as a traditional button-down blouse. -- Edited on 1/11/13 10:12 AM -- ------ -- Anne http://clothingengineer.com
