My daughter found a piece of knit fabric, bold horizontal stripe, that she would like a strapless empire waist style maxi dress. She wears a size 4 RTW. I have really only made scrubs for her, so, although, this should be fairly easy, does anyone have a pattern recommendation for a strapless maxi dress? Thanks.
Julie

My nieces' favoured pattern is an OOP McCalls. You can see it here: McCalls 9295

They like it because it looks like an empire waist but is actually an attached bandeau and so the top part of the dress is doubled and fits firmly which they like.

The dress itself is just a tube & the girls sometimes give it shape on the side seams and other times they don't bother because they team it with a belt. The dress has been made with contrasting bandeaux as well as matching and even been left off on occasions.

HTH

Wow this looks like it would work. Thanks so much. I actually really like the halter neck also. I cannot wait to see what my daughter thinks.

Mimi G did a free maxi-dress pattern and tutorial on her blog, too - it's basically a rectangle with elastic and drawstring at the waist. http://mimigoodwin.blogspot.com/2012/04/maxi-dress-tutorial.html

Thanks for the link - this may be more of what she wants.
