Brother Dreamweaver VQ3000
hray Member since 1/12/13 Posts: 2	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 1/13/13 1:11 PM I went machine shopping yesterday, as my 11 year old Viking Rose is having some "issues." I do mostly quilting (piecing, machine appliqué, and machine quilting) as well as home and craft sewing. I really liked the Brother VQ 3000 for its 11" workspace and some of the timesaver functions like needle threading, automatic cutting, etc. The machine I saw wasn't adjusted right, though...the top tension was too loose. I realize now I should have asked the demonstrator to adjust it (duh.) The decorative stitches and button holes had too much space between stitches for my taste...I like a tight satin stitch. And I realize now that one of the features I really liked, the couple-inch-wide decorative stitches that would be SO cool on sashings and borders, were demonstrated on plain fabric, not a quilt sandwich. Hmmmmm... I'm going to look at Janome machines this week, if I can, and then go back and ask the Brother dealer about the issues. Regarding the embroidery version--it's waaaaay too $$$ for something that I found cool, but such a pain to use that I have only done one project with it on my Rose in the last several years. I decided that if I really want embroidery, I'll buy a dedicated machine later. I'd love to hear anybody's comments about this machine (quilting version.) Thanks! Hray in NM

I tested it too but my dealer is so awful, they wouldn't even go get those items for me after I said that is what I really wanted to see. Date: 1/13/13 7:37 PM Yes, I did get to see the dual feed unit--a big ol' hunk of machinery--and I thought my ordinary walking foot was bulky! And the laser pen was right there. That was one thing I worried about...do all these things hold up? It's so new a machine that I guess it doesn't yet have a track record with regard to repairs. It's the sewing/quilting only version in the DreamWeaver series. I'll do a review once I've used the machine for awhile. I avoid premature reviews of products while the users are in the honeymoon phase of owning a machine. I purchased the machine primarily due to the seven point feed dog system and because it is very user friendly. You have to give a new machine a run for its money and try all sorts of stuff on it and sees how it all works out! Lots of times the websites and/or brochures aren't the best. Raving after having the machine 3 hours? No. But, after even a month or two, and the person has truly gone over and used all of the features, and most of the stitches, then yes, I'll read it. I don't like waiting a whole year or longer for a review, just to see if the machine lasted that long. Paula Reid's blog for instance is one that may be premature, but she shows a lot of neat things that can be done with the laser beam and pen. There are the entry I linked to, and more entries in August 2012, Sept and either Oct or Nov on the machine. I enjoy all reviews, and don't want to wait a year for a user review on a new machine. I'm capable of factoring in the length of time the reviewer has owned the machine. I also really appreciate it when the reviewer returns with updates as time goes on. We need something a little more objective than the manufacturer's descriptions to see if we might be interested in a new model, because if we only read them so many sms have the biggest this and the best that. ------ Let's just say all modern sms are well represented in my studio.
