Date: 1/13/13 2:35 PM I am looking to purchase a serger and have never had one before. I did find an Elna 744 used about 5 hours for $450. Is there anyone that could tell me is this a good serger for someone who has never used one before? Doesn't have automatic tension. Appreciate any advice you have! |

Date: 1/13/13 4:08 PM My neighbour and sewing buddy has one. Very nice machine. Does nice stitch and very easy to thread. I think that the tensions are auto or that there is information available on the machine for each stitch selected.
I hope someone with the machine can give you more infomation.
Have you checked the reviews?

Date: 1/14/13 9:01 AM I have had this machine for about 5 yrs, use it all the time, and have been very happy with it. It does not have automatic tension, but I have not found this to be a problem. Threading is quite easy. I primarily use the 3-thread overlock and the coverstitch. Both work well on a wide variety of fabrics. I have also used the 2 thread rolled hem with decorative thread on chiffon and it was really nice. Seems like a good price too. |
