Here are two photos. To make it large enough, it needs a 6 inch border all around. I'm considering the green, since it's what I have on hand. I don't think it will look too bad, but I'd prefer a Moda Marbles like the brown that's in there. A tan maybe that would match the one in the stars.
But none of my LQS has any Moda marbles in the colors I'm considering. I'd have to order about 4 FQ.

What a cute cute cute quilt! What a great job you done on it so far!!! ! I love the cowboy fabric and it looks like you used the Disappearing 9 Patch pattern? Just my humble opinion, but since there is no green in the quilt, I would tend not to use it for the border. Tan, or black or dark blue (if that is the color of the cowboy silhouettes)... maybe two borders, a narrow 1'' or 2'' border followed by a wider 4 or 5''. The red fabric with the cowboys could make a good border too. I like borders that are restful if a quilt has a lot of pattern. I think your idea to use a Moda Marble is good.

Ooooo NICE!! Love the fabrics!

I agree that the green is not the best. That moda marble brown is awesome!

I am wondering though why you would order 4 fat quarters and not a yard? Aren't 4 fat quarters more expensive generally speaking than a yd?

Look at this nice saddle brown!

I would order 4 FQ to preview the different tans. I'm thinking Wheat might work, but who knows till I look at it against the quilt. I'm not sure what color the brown is in there now - only that it's Moda Marbles.
I really want something to brighten it up, as it's already dark enough.
Thanks for the answer on the green -- I knew it wasn't right.

What about a charm pack then? MUCH less expensive than fat quarters, and you'd get 42 squares to use for something else.

Warbler,
Thanks! I think that I'll either go with some shade of the blue, tan or the red. I was thinking it is rather busy, so yes, something restful, even if it's darker than my original plan, is good.

I'm rather proud of the piecing job. Yes, it's a Disappearing 9 patch! There are only about 5 corners that don't match, but there was nothing I could do about it, as the other corners did match in the same row. I did have to rip a couple of times, on sewing the long rows to each other. That was worth the effort. For some reason, I get really outdone when having to rip on a quilt. I make smaller stitches, and it's a pain!

I LOVE this! I think the moda marble browns would look great, and I agree that a small red border inside would look great too...

Nice job fussy cutting the cowboy/horse silhouettes as it makes the quilt so eye-catching! Good luck in finding the border that will complete your quilt top. You have done a great job so far!

That moda marbles looks almost like suede...I love it. What about a two tone..the moda marbles and then a black, as Warbler suggested Obviously would need to set the dye for a black color so it does not look washed out. DO NOT rush to get this done...do it right, it is a lovely quilt. The more I look at it the more I like it. Personally you have enough light colors in there with the gold shade/creme... remember this is a man's quilt...having a dark border would set off the interior better...IMHO. I'd love to hear what isewquiltart would have to say.
I can't tell from the picture...did you stitch in the ditch?
Again, take your time to finish it right...so often you just want to get the project done. I do not think the green is right...I think it would not look put together, but I am awful at colors.
Being able to shop online is such a gift for something like this!!!! No way you'd find what you'd want at a store unless it is a huge quilt fabric store.
I'll be anxious to see what you decide.
PS Just looked at it again...NO to the green but then Portland would probably add purple and it would look fabulous
You need to see Wild Horse Wild Ride, or get the DVD from Amazon...honest ...it goes with this quilt!!!!!
