Blouse pattern recommendations for slim hourglass

I'm brand new here.I was hoping to get some pattern recommendations for blouses to flatter a slim hourglass figure. I usually wear stretchy tank tops, but I am getting older and want some more sophisticated separates. I would like to sew myself some blouses, but I am not sure which patterns would work well. I have a hard time finding RTW tops that fit nicely, because I have a defined hourglass figure and it seems like all the styles now are baggy and unfitted. I dislike button up blouses and empire waistlines, and I like vintage silhouettes from the 40's and 50's. I have my eye on the Colette Jasmine - but I would love other suggestions to try out! Date: 1/14/13 7:28 AM I really like New Look 6808; I've made view E several times and they are by far my most-worn blouses. New Look 6831 (views D & E) are quite nice, as well, though that's quite similar in shape to the Colette pattern you already mentioned. I recently made the Portrait Blouse from Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing and found that to be quite flattering, as well. For reference, I'm a (somewhat) slim hourglass, though I wouldn't say that my shape is extremely defined. My bust and hip measurements are the same and my waist measurement is 10 inches smaller. Though I'm not extremely busty, I do have a problem finding RTW blouses that fit my bust without being too large everywhere else. Hope this helps!

I think 6831 may be OOP, it's not showing on the site. But, I bet Ebay has it.And actually, I had totally forgotten about Gertie's portrait blouse, but looking at the pics of the pattern I *may* be able to draft myself one. I really appreciate the help! I think that's quite a good start for me to make some blouses.

Date: 1/15/13 4:32 AM I really liked Simplicity 2501 - Gertie even did a version with a convertable collar here - and it definitely has a vintage-y vibe. More casual is New Look 6729. I found the v-neck very flattering.

I love New Look 6755 however it is the most challenging FBA I ever performed. The asymmetrical front pieces, the ruffle and the peplum all need to be modified accordingly. It was a lot of work, but it is well worth it! I made view B with the sleeves from view A. It turned out lovely. I am now planning of making it in silk. -- Edited on 1/15/13 11:49 AM --

Date: 1/16/13 2:10 AM As a slim hourglass you should learn to love button up blouses. The only way you will get a fitted blouse is if it has some sort of closure down the length of the blouse. Anything without a closure has to be baggy to get it over your bust/hips. I can highly recommend Butterick 5615. It is fitted with lots of feminine shape, great for an hourglass, plus the peplum and tie front give the blouse a vintage look. HTH ------ Belinda.
