Putting my foot back into garment sewing

I guess i should make some muslins to determine proper fit and adjustments....it has been forever since I have done any garment sewing. I have been quilting. I want to put my serger to good use. Yes, after a few years, muslins are the way to go. There's a discussion in Patterns and Notions about "what are the basics?" and it is what each person thinks would be their ideal TNT patrtern collection. I'm hoping we turn it into a sew along. Regardless, it's a good topic. And there's so much more support in many other discussions. Best wishes! If it has been awhile, you might want to think about any body changes since the last time. If you plan to use any of the "big four" pattern companies, look online or through their catalogs at your local JoAnn store & write down the co & pattern number. It had been a long time since I had sewn for myself too when I started again 2 years ago. It has been a journey. Fitting is such a huge issue and I was shocked to find that patterns are not as well drafted (at least the big 4) as they use to be. Finding PR has been a huge help. Muslins help and do PR reviews. So, just jump in!

Also, craftsy has some great fitting classes, they were on sale for 14.99, don't know if they still are or not. But all of these have helped me a bunch in trying to figure out this strangers body I am stuck in lol.

It comes with a pattern and she discusses body shapes, adjusting bust, waist, hips, making a cheap dress form, supplies, fabrics, styles- just about everything. Its a great place to start. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

I also started sewing after a long absence because I could not find rtw that fit. I was delighted to see how much information is here. Fit for Real People was an eye opener for me. And check out all the new pattern companies. I only knew about McCalls, Butterick, Simplicity,Vogue.
