Please help me.. I just bought The Laura Ashley NX-2000 and took it out the box started FMQ and on the back all I got was eyelashes, No matter how slow I went. The tension defaults to 4, no stitch width and I think it set at 2 for the length. I paid $1485.00 for it, I am so disappointed. Does anybody else have this problem....?

try to rethread the machine bobbin and upper.. then if it doesn't work, turn off and unplug the machine wait.. then turn back on and then try..Make sure the needle is in good condition

I know it is weird but that worked for me. I wasn't free motioning but I was just doing straight stitches when all of a sudden the stitches werent forming correctly.. after I did that it worked.

Nice machine... but too choosy/sensitive for me.

Did you set your stitch length at zero, drop your feed dogs, use your darning or FMQ foot? Using a top-stitch needle 16? Turn your tension up a notch or two. Your machine may have come with a 2nd bobbin case meant to be used for free-motion quilting? Set your speed control on medium. If you go too slow, it results in bad stitches especially if you are new at it. Some people use bobbin washers to prevent the eyelashing. Its a great machine you have and there must be some one thing you haven't done that your machine requires. Sometimes just a call to the dealer will help you get up and going. Kick your tension up to about 7 and see if the eyelashes disappear. If not, play with that some til you get the result you want and then remember where you set it for next time.
Good luck! let us know how things go!

They had the machine on sale for 1399 and with the tax it came to 1485.

Thank You for the suggestions. You know this machine tells you what foot to use and it had a needle in it. I put the free motion foot on it like it said. the 2nd bobbin case is suppose to be for bobbin work embellishment so I didn't change it. I use Gutermann thread It is really a very self explanatory machine. I had a PC-420 which is the mini multi-feature cheap version and right out the box, I was doing FMQ with very little eyelashing.
I called the dealer and he said I could bring the machine back he would give me a class. When I got home I looked at the bottom of the receipt and it said no refunds which I was not told that when I made the purchase.
I'm going to try the suggestion you gave me and see if it makes it better. Thank you again, when I first got it home and started sewing and it didn't look right, I started crying because to me it was a huge investment. So many people told me to get the best machine I could afford and I went about $500 over budget but I thought to myself I can keep this for years to come so I made the sacrifice.

Do you FMQ? Do you have this machine? If so, how much did you pay?

My suggestion to you is to go to your dealer asap, show him/her what you are doing and then show them the results.. tell them you are not happy (If they couldn't fix it)..

When I free motion with mine I push the feed dog button down, I did not bother with the stitch length.. it FMQ right away and I was happy with the result.. The tension was set to 4 I think.

I paid more than what you paid for.. I traded the machine for something else because although it FMQ well for me, it Didn't really sew well on fleece - eats the fabric ALOT. The straight stitch was a hit or miss.. sometimes perfect, a lot of times wonky... even the dealer got the same results

I'm not happy with it. I ran some deco stitches and I really didn't like the quality. I'm upset with myself because I didn't ask about their return policy and on the bottom of the receipt it say's "We will gladly exchange your merchandise, sorry no refunds" I hope this means I can take it back for something else. I like the stitch quality on the Pfaff better. but the one I can afford does not have all the features I want.

I don't have your model, but I do have lil' sister, NX650Q/ Laura Ashley NX800 ( same machine, mine's blue. LA is pink with flowers).

Mine can be temperamental and sometimes gets out of synch. Can be somethings as simple as a car ride...a broken needle, C+C thread. Whatever. She's a moody wench. Poor stitch quality and ugly deco stitches are the tip off.

Toward the back of the manual should be a description of fine tuning the settings. "Realigning the Pattern". Page 131 in my manual. Takes about 3-5 min and a few sample stitch-outs of a goofy "sideways balloon". Based on how it stitches out, you gradually adjust the horizontal and vertical alignments, per the manual.

I learned how to do this at my Dealer lessons. It should fix your deco's and dramatically improve the FMQ.

Hope this helps!
