I like singer has extra-high presser foot lifter and lots of feet and I like brother SE400 because of the embroidery function.
The most important thing to me is a machine can help me sew easily . embroidery function is fun to have but not the most important thing. Does brother se400 has one step button hole function? Which machine is better for sewing? Thanks in advance.

They both have a one-step buttonhole feature, fortunately. As for which one would help you sew better ~ that answer only you will ultimately know. There are people here who prefer Singer's and those who prefer Brother's. I've read really good reviews of both of those models. Another consideration is dealer support/authorized sewing repair service center. I've personally decided against purchasing that Singer (when I've saved enough for an upgraded machine with more stitches, more buttonholes, etc.) because if I want to keep the warranty valid, if/when I needed repairs, I'd need to take it to an authorized repair center, which for me means shipping it several states away. For Brother on the other hand, I can drive to two choices within an hour. I also have sewn on both Singer's and Brother's, and for me, I "bond" more with the Brother's. I don't know "why"....I think that's why it is such a subjective thing and why oftentimes here on PR you'll hear people suggest sewing on several machines, if at all possible. I also like the Brother sewing manuals better. Again, very subjective.

But if you absolutely don't see yourself doing any embroidery, and if you've got a Singer repair center or don't mind shipping to one, then perhaps it wouldn't make any sense to buy a sewing/embroidery combo, and just buy the 9960.

On the other hand, if you think you'd like that capability to be there for later on, then it might be nice to have that SE400, so you can "grow into" that embroidery aspect of it.

Two ways to look at it. As far as ease of use and sewing itself, I honestly think you'll do fine with either machine. So don't worry about that part.

The brands are very much alike for sewing, but Brother is the better brand (IMO) for embroidery.

This something only you can decide.

Visit dealers and take a test drive.

I love my Singer 9960. It is a whole lot of machine for the money. But if you have your heart set on embroidery, you'll of course want the Brother.
