Date: 1/23/13 9:43 AM Hello, all.
Anyone have either of these titles?
Make and Fit Your Own Bra Beverly Johnson (website)
Making Beautiful Bras by Lee-Ann Burgess (website)
I am a totally new to bra-making and really just want to transfer what I learn to making a good swimsuit. I can order my favorite bra online, (Anita brand) and have been fitted by a professional. The same is not true for ordering a swimsuit. I have a large cup size (DD/I) with narrow ribcage. Most swimsuits, even from speciality shops online, let the cup size dictate the size everywhere else.
That being said, when I see kits like
this with beautiful fabrics, I get excited about the bra making part, too!
Thanks for your input!

Date: 1/23/13 10:04 AM I don't have either of these books but I do have Beverly Johnson's Bra-Makers Manual Volume 1 and it is full of really good information including lots of fitting help and design ideas. I need to pick up Volume 2 but just haven't gotten around to it.
The manual has been a great help to me when I am making custom swimwear for some of my harder to fit clients. I highly recommend it.

Date: 1/23/13 10:30 AM Get the Bra-makers Manual Volume 1. It has a good section on how to copy your favorite bra, and lots of tips for working with different fabrics and making the necessary adjustments. Volume 2 is good, but IMO not quite as useful as Volume 1. ------ -- Anne

Date: 1/23/13 2:09 PM Lee Anne Burgess has a swimsuit book - sorry on my phone and can't be bothered finding the link- it shows you how to draft a swimsuit using either a well fitting bra or by drafting one. ------ chris

Date: 1/24/13 7:56 AM If you want to get started with bra making there is a sew along going on right now at http://www.clothhabit.com.
I am a professional custom bra maker and I am taking questions from the participants in the sew-along as they move through the process.
The sew-along is a good way to get started with bra making before investing in a book. |

Date: 1/24/13 11:02 AM I vote for the Beverly Johnson book. I have taken courses from her and the info is great. Also check out the "bra makers supply site" for you supplies. ;)
Good Luck
