Is this a Good Quilting Arrangement? Or do I need Lift?

Date: 1/23/13 9:34 PM Hi all, I'm using my new 10" Viking sewing machine to quilt my Jelly Roll Race Quilt -- Just SID cuz that's all I know how to do! Does this look like a good setup to Quilt? Oh Cat, I LOVE LOVE IT!!! The big harp is Amazing!! And I love how the machine does the hover and pivot. It was a bit awkward for my brain to get the walking foot on, but it has it's own tiny feet and wait until I take photo's to show off the Back stitches. hahahaha This has to be the Best I've done, even without lifting the quilt up any. Today I bought a 5' Table and fat styrofoam in 2 sections to lift up the quilting area. I can't wait to fix my room up now. This gal has a permanent place in my heart!! I didn't know how much I would love having Cutters, the "Fix" button - and an Easy to use menu I read the manual and even figured out how to stitch out a brush stroke lettering saying "Made with (heart) Love (heart), Debbie" The newest Viking is the 875 Quilt -- but for the difference in price I got a huge deal and my poor pfaff is sitting on a tub kicked to the curb sort of. ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great. 2013

Letting it fall over the back unto the floor would be a mistake, but the best thing would be to have a table to put in back of the table you are quilting on plus a side table - for my side table I am using my large ironing board.I can have it at the same level as the machine and table and it works. I read that in another forum and people seemed to love the idea so I tried it and I love it too! If I want to do fmq, maybe I should buy a used ironing board and put it in the spot between the cabinet and the window to support the weight of a quilt. Maybe a table that is narrow will also work. The table has to be the same height at the cabinet at 30 inches. Well, mine is 29 1/2 inches high. I had it made that way as I am 5' 2" tall. sewing room Not a great picture, but it gives you the idea of where I am thinking I need the extra table in between the cabinet and the window. Now, I have to figure out the size I want. I quilt (not piece) with the back flap open, so this makes a much larger area to need to cover. The back flap is 24 inches and the desk is also 24 inches deep. So that means I need to work with 48 inches of space or at least 30 inches. I do not want it too large for when I am just piecing, using the iron for clothing, etc. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Today I'll set up my new room, table and styrofoam again using a wall as the back so the quilt can't slide down. What I really want to know is what's this "hover & pivot" business??

Ohhhh this machine leaves the needle down (you can change these settings), then lifts up to hover and pivot when piercing -- ALSO it lifts up TWICE as High when quilting still with the needle in! Really makes piecing sooo much easier, and my leg doesn't get crampy holding the pedal up and down :-) Debbie ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great. 2013
