1 member likes this. Date: 1/24/13 2:48 PM I recently found a discontined boy's/men's swim trunk pattern, and my son has been bugging me to make him some and my husband's suit is more than 10 years old, so I would really like to sew him one as well.
What fabric would be good? Where can I get it? I haven't had luck locally so far. My husband would be fine with solid dark colors, but my son would like patterns or bold colors.
Thanks in advance.

Date: 1/25/13 6:49 AM procraftinate- I would use a woven nylon, for example 2-ply Supplex, for swim trunks. Outdoor fabrics stores such as Seattle Fabrics, The Rain Shed, Rockywoods, and a store in Portland, OR that I cannot think of the name right now should all have suitable fabrics. They'll likely have soft mesh for the inside, and drawcord elastic too. If you're not familiar with sewing these types of fabrics, use 100% polyester thread such as Mettler Metrosene.

Date: 1/26/13 7:13 PM Thanks. I thought the sites were kinda confusing, I could't find quite what I was looking for, but I did see some dressy camo prints my daughter would love! |

Date: 1/26/13 10:36 PM You might try Chezami.com. If you scroll down to "Woven Microfibers" there are two lime-colored fabrics (usually they have more than two). If you click on any of the fabric "swatches" on this page, another page will open up with larger photos of that fabric (and usually a photo of it sewn up as a garment), the fabric description/information and pricing.
You might find that one of their other fabrics (that are available for sale) might work for your purpose too. I have no affiliation- I've ordered fabric from them several times and have been pleased with what I received, esp. when they have their sales. When the fabric is clearance-priced you typically can only purchase it in individual 2 yd, pre-cut pieces. HTH's |
