I ordered this awesome coral stretch denim to make a Hollyburn skirt but I'm having trouble finding a zipper that even comes close to matching.

I could probably do an invisible zipper, but they never seem quite as sturdy. How about installing a lapped zipper?? Is that something you can substitute? I haven't cut out the pattern or anything so if I need to make any pattern adjustments I can.

I think the invisible zipper would work fine. I use them all the time on skirts, including denim and have had no issues.

You can make a lapped zipper, it doesn't have to be cut differently if I remember correctly. It's been awhile since I put one in. The invisible zipper would certainly work, and you can sew a tab at the top to hide the non matching color.

You could also go in the opposite direction - an exposed zipper in a contrasting color! I think a darkish periwinkle (ie, not pale pastel) or turquoise would be amazing, or even cream or black if you wanted to be more conservative.

It depends on what tops you plan to wear with it.

If you're worried about the sturdiness of an invisible zipper you could also extend the waistband only so it has a 1" underlap, then use a metal hook and bar to secure it in place. Install the invisible zipper so it is attached to the skirt only. That way the stress will mostly be on the waistband closure and not the zipper.

I have never tried an invisible zipper application on denim. If it works with the fabric (test) you could always paint the pull.

Try zipperstop.com. They carry all kinds of zippers in dozens and dozens of colors.

I once had the same problem with a bright green fabric, and found out that, no matter how "invisibly" the invisible zipper is inserted, some of it shows when you move.
I cut my fabric with 3/8" SA so there wasn't enough SA to do a lapped zipper - maybe yours a wide enough ?

I chose the option of making it contrasting, but it changed the output completely, of course, and you may not like the result :

Jenna--gasp! You're sewing a WOVEN?! LOL
That coral denim is so completely fabulous, and Rose's turquoise green skirt looks AMAZING with the white topstitching! (Rose, didn't you post about not being able to find a zipper to match? It turned out great!)

Yes, it was this fabric (although I had another pattern in mind at the time). Turned out I couldn't find a matching topstitching thread either ...
Thank you PR for the suggestion to make a statement and use a completely different color !
