When I bought my machine, I was enchanted by the possibilities of the deco stitches + wing needle (I'm a lifelong needlewoman, love whitework, and this just looks *fun.*). Of course, I still haven't tried it! But I have a project in mind, and have forgotten everything I might have learned all those years ago. (Not to mention in all likelihood misplaced my needle! LOL)

Does anyone have a good online source for wing needle/deco stitch tutorials, or could perhaps point me in the direction of previous PR discussions on the topic? I did a cursory search yesterday and didn't see what I was looking for--but it could well be out there, and I just missed it.

Thanks!!

I don't have any on-line resources for you but I did purchase this book, Fine Machine Sewing, and it is very good! Not only does it show you how to get the most out of your decorative stitches it also gives awesome hints and tips to sewing better and neater.

I've been playing with wing needles lately, but only with regard to heirloom sewing. It didn't occur to me to try that needle with the deco stitches, which deserves a great big 'doh' for me. The heirloom ones mostly give tutorials for entredeux and pinstitching. Which is good, but probably not what you're looking for. Now that you've asked about it I'll have to play with my stitches and that pita wing needle. I do know that for heirloom work they suggest a finer thread then normal, a 60 or 80 weight. The regular stuff fills in the holes more, which is the point of the wing needle. I also need to get the book that was suggested, I've been eying it up. The entredeux and pinstitch can also be done corded, I've used pearle cotton for that. Of course my total knowledge on heirloom sewing comes from some online tutorialsI wouldn't mind some information on wing needles and deco stitches myself! For right now I think it's back to the great experiment, again.

I have to got to order that book!! I've been playing with the deco stitches and it seems like the simpler ones look the nicest with the wing needle. One that looks like a cross stitch looks really nice. At least I think it's supposed to be a cross stitch, since I have no handwork, embroidery or other types of experience with anything like that. At least it looked good once I switched to a multicolor thread instead of white on white. The white looks good for a heirloom look, but trying to see the deco stitches on muslin is impossible. The bright colored thread really lets the stitches pop. I can sew a lot of stitches with the wing, but not a lot of them really look good. I think we'll have to order that book tonight, I'm really stumbling my way around fancy stitching and heirloom work. I really need some guidance on all of this, internet tutorials and experimenting will not teach me all I need to know.

A TV show Martha's Sewing Room with Martha Pullen has many episodes which show techniques using a winged or double wing needle.

Your very welcome. I think it may be the best ten bucks I have ever spent. The tip about using a rubberband on the free arm of the machine as a seam guide is shear genius to me!
