Babylock Imagine - Used or New? Please help decide

Very well maintained and had it serviced annually. She didn't use it much and it's in great shape. She quilts more than anything and didn't want it taking up space. I called my dealer and they normally sell the Imagine for $1695 and can include the workbook, some extra feet, thread, etc. I'm sure I could have them come down a bit, maybe $150 or so. My question is - Should I just go with my dealer? I'm not one to buy used on something like this, even though I trust that it's in good condition. But if it's just $600 more for a new machine and accessories that I would probably buy anyway, then I'm leaning towards going with my dealer. ------ Babylock Ellisimo Gold Babylock Enlighten Kenmore 1914 Kenmore 1814

Sergers do not normally need annual service unless it is driven hard on a daily basis or the user tried to serge a rubber backed rug and knocked the timing out of whack.

I hardly ever hear of BL sergers requiring much in the way of maintenance so that wouldn't be a big deal in my book. If you are wanting to help out your mother's friend, then by all means go with the used machine. She's a HUGE quilting person and has the big long arm and about three or four other machines. She's very meticulous and saves EVERYTHING that comes with her machines...the boxes, the plastic, receipts, etc. She has always taken each one she's owned in for annual service/checkup since they were bought. Not sure I would do the same, but that's what she did. I have no doubt the machine is in excellent condition, but like I said, I prefer new. There is a new Imagine model out - BLE1-AT2. That is what I would be purchasing from the dealer. I think $1000 for a used Imagine is good. Check on ebay or craigslist for comparisons. She might have extra feet. I never use my extra feet but I just put on a clear foot.

Not sure what I would use the wave stitch for since I don't even own a serger now. I just always have planned on buying one and everyone says the Babylocks with auto-tension and air-threading are the best. One odd question I have is that it seems the older sergers I've see on eBay get discolored quite a bit. Is that a general trait of these machines? Hate to spend that much money and have them yellow to the point they look ancient....odd I know, but that's a pet peeve of mine.
