It's "old" (last year), but I just saw this on Pinterest today. The blogger had her husband build a cabinet that folds out into a work table. I think these are a great idea for an extra machine, or for those whose "sewing space" needs to be hidden (in a guest room for example).

They made a variation for storage/play for their sons' Legos as well. The blog has both a tutorial on how to make it yourself and/or you can buy one from them.

Tutorial

Using the example of the kids version (much wider), you might be able to get a small cutting table out of it, too.

This IS SEW perfect!! Oh how I wish my hub's knew how to wield a saw n hammer, alas I am the better carpenter but don't have the time! I'm going to take this to a local cabinet shoppe in town to see how much they would charge to build it. I can see many uses for this type of cabinet. Thanks for sharing.

My DH built one in the laundry area for my ironing years ago and in our last home built one for a table.
My only caution is the weight on the edge of the wall. It needs a series of solid heavy duty hinges if you are supporting weight and motion over a period of years. And on the table one he put a support bar and legs underneath on the wall area side.
I loved them both- sew useful.

What a nice idea!

We built mine to fold down against the wall instead of up on the wall. I thought at the time my sister and her husband would be staying with us a few times during the year, and that's why I opted for that instead of a table.

....Only to find out after I spent all the money on the sewing counter and a really nice queen inflatable bed with frame -- that they won't stay here at all. We are too far out of the way for where they want to be visiting people when they come in. Now it's going to be a PIA to move it to a new sewing room when that happens!

I have a large one that folds down to a cutting table. it measures 52 x 48. It has piano hinges. I love it!

Ooooooo! Connie, post a picture please. I'm dithering about a table in limited space. Have been considering gate-leg tables. This might be better still. Thanks!
