Date: 1/29/13 8:13 PM I decided to try my hand sewing with a knit fabric. But somehow,
I missed the lesson
that on a one-way stretch knit,
the stretch should go AROUND the body horizontally,
and not stretch up and down.

I spent half of Sunday sewing a dress that is now in the trash. Luckily, I was able to claim it was just a muslin. |

Date: 1/29/13 9:56 PM You guys are so kind to me.
The only upside to this is:
When I first tried the thing on, it was so TIGHT that I started to freak out thinking I REALLY must have packed on the pounds this holiday.
Right: two-way stretch. It stretches from selvedge to selvedge more than lengthwise. But what makes me nuts is: the pattern has it laid out wrong!

Date: 1/29/13 10:09 PM Always check the stretch, there are some knits that have more stretch lengthwise. It's not that common, but it does happen, ask me how I know, lol! ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 1/30/13 1:03 PM Marjoriekh: it REALLY DOES help to share! I was very reluctant to post: I kept thinking, nobody wants to hear this stupid thing that I did. But I totally felt much better after hearing from others!
