Date: 1/30/13 11:34 PM I am so frustrated with this machine! I bought a Juki MO734 serger sight unseen relying on reviews and reading the manual online. I have used Pfaff sergers since the late 80's and have sewn professionally since then. I made many a stretchy dance costume over the years....100's to be sure. Well, the beef I have with this serger is the initial feed. I feed in 2 layers of tshirt knit and after being cut by the knife, the cut layers bunch up before they can feed to the needle. There is an open area of the foot right behind the toe of the foot but before the needle and the fabric does not want to proceed past that. It hits the part of the foot that is metal right before the needle and gets hung up there. Then the fabric veers off to the left and doesn't get stitched. This is maddening! My other sergers just moved the cut fabric along w/o me even having to lift the toe of the presser foot to start them and I never had any problems with them getting hung up anywhere. I think the larger multi purpose feet are not as good as the older smaller feet. This foot has a square cut out area right past the toe. If it was solid it would be fine.
Do you all have this problem with your Juki and Bernina(made by Juki) sergers? Is there something wrong with mine? I am at wits end! I really want to love this serger!

Can you contact your dealer or online dealer? I think something isn't right here. I see the opening on the foot that I think you are talking about, but I never have a hang up there or anywhere else. |

Date: 1/31/13 2:46 PM I have the same machine and was, and sometimes still do, have this problem. The thing that worked for me was the exact opposite of what I thought would work. Confused yet? I always used the light foot pressure and found that I needed to go to med. or heavy and moreso when engaging the differential feed, something that was new to me. My old serger was 20plus years old!
If I'm not cutting off sa it's usually not a problem. It's when I need to trim that I sometimes, but not always, have a problem.
Hopefully somebody else that has this machine can help both of us!

Funny that each of you did the opposite with the pressure.....hm-m-m-m.I also find it worse with the differential set to not stretch the knit. I have monkeyed with the feeds and pressures to no avail. Maybe I'm too impatient to try all the possible variations before I get it right. My wonderful old Pfaff just plowed full steam ahead on anything I gave it with great results. I'm glad I did not get rid of it because I have to use it on some very sheer and stretchy fabrics the Juki cannot handle. I so wanted a new serger to fall in love with.

Date: 2/1/13 2:36 PM Are you placing the fabric under the pressure foot, or just letting the machine take the fabric as you lay it in front of the pressure foot?
I had this happen with simple woven cotton and could not understand... as I recall it was a result of lifting the pressure foot to grab the first tiny bit of fabric. I found that if I started the machine going and placed the fabric in front of the foot, the feed would automatically grab it and go. I think it may have more to do with how you start rather than foot pressure or differential. ------

Accustomed to sewing machines- lifting the presser foot up and down to start sewing, I had to retrain myself to just let the machine feed it in there- presser foot down! I had a post-it note reminder on my machine to get in the habit. Single biggest user error for me. HTH. I'm sure I'll come up with fresh ones as this boo boo fades. ------
Sometimes she didn't always follow the recipe.

Date: 2/1/13 7:02 PM Warbler and Wendy, I never lifted a presser foot on a serger in my 25 years of using one. On this one I almost always have to lift the tip and put the fabric up to the knife or it will take the bottom layer and leave the top one. Crazy!I will mess with it more I guess! |

Date: 2/1/13 7:22 PM I have a MO 655 and we have struggled to bond. Prior I had a Pfaff Hobbylock which I liked but the dealer in town broke it. Then I had a super cheap Euro Pro that I LOVED but the replacement blades were impossible to locate. That said, I have the same problem as you and it bothers me a lot since I love knits and I love knit stripes even more. My Euro Pro serged the stripes perfectly.
I have to agree that tightening up the presser foot pressure helped some.

I also can't put the net threads on my cones because the thread tension gets all out of wack. And this is after my trusted service tech fixed all the problems the machine came with after Allbrands refused to replace it.
