I bought this vintage (1960's) pattern because it came with different proportions for tall, medium, and short heights (I'm a shorty at 5'2".)

The alterations for the short version seem unusual (to me, at least.) There's a diagonal fold to be taken above the bust tapering to the upper sleeve. The shorten line above the waist is similar to modern patterns, but the amount to be folded out is uneven; it's 1 1/2" at the center and only 1 1/8" at the sides. The front has the same alterations.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It seems like it would work well enough.

That is different. I have never seen it done like that. I love the instructions on the vintage patters.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

That tuck on the upper bodice removes a bit of length from above the "arm pit" (lower edge of the arm hole/sleeve) while preserving the shoulder and sleeve configuration, so there's no re-drafting needed for the sleeve.

The fold under the sleeve removes more length overall.

This is interesting. I think I'll try it on a pattern for my 5' 2" wife.

This topic would look good over in the sewing for petites forum too!

Love this! I always need to make an adjustment to shorten between the neck and bust, but it's always a pain because of the effect on the armscye. I'll defenitely be giving this a try. Thanks for sharing.

I did this once to prevent gaping on then front neck of a sheath dress. Who knew it was a "real" adjusment?

Sounds really interesting, but unfortunately I can't see a link or image, just a square with a red X in it?

Sorry about that- for security reasons, some IP addresses from certain parts of the world are blocked on the server I use for picture hosting.

I have added the pics to my PR album, and you can see them here, here, and here.
