Hi all, I'm making a dress based off of suzie from moonrise kingdom. Here's a pic that shows the great texture

I have a friend that thinks its a knit but I'm not so sure. I don't want to go with plain linen as I think it would be boring. I'd love to know the names of a few fabrics similar to this for my search. Also, apologies for any problems with this post I'm writing it on my phone unfortunately.

The fabric is small circles here's an even better close up pic

I've never seen fabric like this ever but it is really cool!

DH and I love that movie!!!

I think your friend is right, that it may be a polyester double knit, because it would be true to the time period of the movie. (LOL as if we really know what that was... but based on the automobile and other hints about the setting...)

If you can not find a polyester double knit, look for matelassé with rayon and/or polyester in it. I've sewn one into a jacket that is not as stiff as 100% cotton. Matelassé will ravel like a nightmare, though.

Trawling for some vintage poly double-knits on eBay might be your best bet.
