How do I identify the right side of a performance fleece fabric.

I bought 2 pieces of fleece fabric at least five years ago, and am just using it. It is a Malden Mills "performance fleece"; I know one side repels water and the other side absorbs. But my usual test of spraying a bit of water on the fabrics isn't that helpful. On both sides of the fabric the water seems to "bead up". Does anyone have a better method of figuring out which is the right side, which is crucial to know before I cut! Any help is appreciated.

And of course I wanted this garment to be finished yesterday!!

Normally knits will curl to the right side if you pull along the cut edge on the cross-grain, they curl to the wrong side on edges that are with the grain. I don't know if this is true with performance fleece though.

Selvage curls towards the right side...but when you stretch the fabric , it curls to the wrong side . It is important to know which is which because one side pills differently with use and wear.

Thanks for your reply. That was my inclination, but I wasn't sure. the other thing about these pieces is one side looks like the usual "fleecy" look and the other has a flat perforated appearance. Argh! I will go with the "curl to the wrong side on the crossgrain" approach.

Did you try to contact Malden Mills, there may be a telephone number on their website. They may be able to help you.
