Teflon Fabric Anybody ever seen this stuff?

It really is pure Teflon, not just coated. The fabric is woven of Teflon fiber yarns. It is dark brown, has a low sheen, soft and very slippery feel. I'm not sure how strong it actually is, but it feels sort of weak, like it would pull out of stitching easily. It's being used inside of parachute deployment bags because without it, the nylon parachute fabric and the nylon deployment bag fabric are melting each other as the parachute is being pulled from the bag. That's how darn fast these things are getting. One guy here has a great demonstration of how easily the nylon parachute fabric will melt from friction. You hold a doubled strip of fabric out between your hands, stretching it tightly. He takes a similar strip and loops it over the piece you are holding, then saws it back and forth while pulling down on it. It about three repetitions of the saw motion, you are holding a piece of nylon in each hand, as he has cut right through it with the second piece. ------ A sewing machine is just a welder for textiles.

Here's a picture of the stuff. I'll bet it would make fabulous ironing board covers! ------ A sewing machine is just a welder for textiles.
