About emoticons some think them silly

Date: 2/7/13 10:22 AM After a few comments in various forums on the use or not of emoticons, I want to just say that when we communicate with words only, our intent can be murky. Is it a nasty comment? Is it humor? Is this just factual remarking on something? We don't know each other personally in real life for the most part, so communication is a difficult area sometimes. Far from being "Girly" or juvenile, occasional use of an emoticon can shed light on the intent of a post. I am not the type for froufrou embellishment in life, sewing or conversation, but the judicious use of emoticons helps clarify what I write. Sometimes I have to watch my ''tone'' of voice, so the emoticons are a big help to get my point across without offending or sounding pushy.

They add a non-verbal layer of communication. Actually, I'd like to see more of them, like the very large and clever array provided at artisanssquare.com.

I don't care for strings of emoticons myself, but one or two...and I think I stick in smiles the old way a lot and that translates here to an emoticon!
