Date: 2/7/13 10:28 AM I am looking for a misses tier skirt. sometimes called a ruffled skirt.
This one lays in tier's.
Have seen some dress patterns for little girls in Butterick. |

When I was younger, I just made these out of straight fabric cuts. Each layer needs to be about 1 1/2 times the layer before it-more than that gets you more fullness. You can vary the width of each layer. This Simplicity pattern has a bit curve to it at the upper layers to it gives it a little shape over the hip (not much). Is this what you meant? HTH

Date: 2/8/13 4:22 AM In Simplicity 2655 ,view D,not only the hip part, but also the flounces are flared( i.e no gathers). That could be more flattering.For myself I like that better but it takes you more fabric

Date: 2/8/13 12:55 PM I've drafted a gathered tiered skirt which might be similar to what you're looking for. Here's a pic Fuchsia skirt . I've also sewn up a couple of versions. You can do a straight hem instead the scallops. FYI It's a free pattern. |

This is what I'm trying to do.
My daughter and I are not buying any retail clothing except knit tops, tees e.t.c. for at least 6 months.
It seems that all over the place here and on the runways are long layered ruffled skirts.
I've made her a capelet. Black with a cream/black dot lining. Now I want to make a long skirt out of the same dot fabric. ( she loves long skirts). The Fuchsia would need to be extended to about 32 inches.
If I use the Simplicity I will leave the ruffles loose with a finished seam.
I do think I'm thinking about this too much. lol |

Date: 2/9/13 10:54 AM I would love to find a skirt in the style of Butterick 4967 in a ladies size. Simplicity 1872 skirt section is a good choice. There again needs to be longer.

1 member likes this. There are many free patterns online, under either Patterns or Tutorials. I have used many with variations for GK's.
Look on Pinterest photos for sites too.
One of my RTW skirts is a rayon/poly soft denim pull-on skirt (made in US!) of 2 basic rectangles. It has 2 5" tiers, the bottom tier at the length you want, the other tier, sewn on the outside, falls above that just covering the lower stitch line. This draws the eye to the lower ruffles and away from the hips. Both tiers are only about 1 1/2x the base and hems are just serged for less weight. Still waiting to copy it. |
