Paff zipper feet Which one to get?

I discovered the Pfaff feet on a PR post and am adding them over time. Primarily I make garment alterations, repairs, craft items and projects on the BL9. I have an Ellisimo for delicate, special or detailed work. Initially I choose the BL9 for compatible BL feet and bobbins. The threads and bobbins are working out fine but I find it a nuisance to dig through the Ellisimo feet that snap on and pack them up to take and unpack them when back home. I started using some generic feet I had accumulated over time but that requires a screwdriver. So I am rebuilding a foot collection of snap on feet that will travel with the BL9. I got a Paff shank adaptor and really love the snap on Pfaff feet- better than the BL feet. They are solid and work great and no screwdriver. I was looking for a Pfaff zipper foot but am confused by all the choices. I dont want generic adjustable- it's a pain to screw on. I am not sure if I need both the invisible and regular zipper foot. And then there is the IDT zipper feet. They are the easiest to find online but I don't even know if they can be used on a non-IDT machine. Can anyone with a 4-5 mm Pfaff stitch width w/o IDT tell me what snap on zipper foot might work? And how you like using it? ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

Regarding the other zipper foot question: depends on the Pfaff shank you have. Some shanks for 5mm feet are narrower where feet snap. This will limit the feet you can snap on. If the shank you have will accomodate a 9mm foot and the IDT foot is easier to find you can use it. Does the BL have adjustable widht for left, center and right needle position? My shank will accomodate 9mm but I only have a left and center so unable to fine tune it. I may have to go the adjustible zipper foot route afterall. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

Note though that the snap-on foot style she says to avoid is NOT the same style as the Pfaff foot. She says with the snap-on style like this... the back width of the foot gets in the way. That's due to the foot she shows being attached centered to the shank. I love it. I use it to sew in cording and have even used it for "stitching in the ditch" when my ditch foot just wasn't cutting it. I got one with my 5.5 mm machine and another one with my 9.0 mm machine. They are identical as far as I can tell. I am not 100% certain of this but.... I think you might be able to use a foot designed for IDT use even though you don't have an IDT. The IDT feet have a cut out at the back where the IDT goes when it is in use. I have used the same feet and sewed with my IDT disengaged with no problems. But... fair warning... I have never tested the theory on a different machine.

A couple of photo examples of similar style feet shown attached right and left (not centered): Attached left Attached right In both photos, the needle appears to be in the center position, and, yes, I can see that the back of the foot is wider than the "tounge" or "ski" in the front of the foot, so I can see why Nicole refers to the back of the foot as being "in the way". Note that the Pfaff foot does not have any "overhang" in the back of the foot. I have Pfaffs and I've used that IDT Pfaff zipper foot many times, and yes, you can use it with IDT disengaged. Depending on how many layers or how "fiddly" the project (zippered bags, for instance), sometimes I get better results when I sew with IDT disengaged. I also adjust the left-right needle position. If you can adjust the needle position left and right on your machine, you can further fine-tune how close the needle is to the edge of the project. CMC ETA: Here's a Pfaff zipper foot without IDT on eBay. Per the Pfaff website, the part number for the Category B, C, and F zipper foot is 820261-096, and that's the MPN (Manufacturer's Part Number) shown in the eBay listing. -- Edited on 2/14/13 2:42 PM --
